So much stuff about how ppl are reacting to this is making me so angry >:|

you know I'm getting entirely sick of this argument. It doesn't matter WHO the fucking victim of sexual abuse is, people don't react in a manner that is helpful EVER. It doesn't matter if the victim is male or female, young or old, conventionally attractive or conventionally ugly, what they wore, how they acted, who they hung out with, it doesn't fucking matter because no matter what someone always blames the victim. Somehow it is always the victims fault when this thing happens. (apparently students are now blaming the victims of the abuse for the fact that what ever the fucking hell his name is got fired)

Instead of playing this fucking sadistic as hell what if game people to need to focus on the fact that someone was raped, and is being blamed yet again for the extremely minor consequences of that act as well as the cover up that took place afterward. The more divided we are as a support network (and I'm not blaming you ami because you are right to point this out, I'm blaming jezebel for being so fucking stupid) the less we get done. The only way we can begin to start chipping away at the rape culture is if we act as an unmovable cohesive unit, and refuse to take it anymore.

As such, articles like the one at jezebel are completely unhelpful and need to be called out.

Victim blaming is common, but how victims are blamed does vary across demographic groups (see, for example, NWO's recent claims that girls are out to tempt men but boys aren't).

The issue to me is timing and backing up the claims. For example, there was a case in NYC a few years back when the NYPD invested more resources in looking for a rich white person's missing dog than looking for a black girl (who, tragically, died shortly before a person nearby noticed something and intervened). It is okay to have discussions about how victims are treated differently, but one needs to back that up. Also, timing and context matter.

I think she makes an excellent point about how there's no way the boys will be called slutty, etc, but she didn't have much beyond that.

Maybe that would be a point if there were any actual girls involved to be called slutty.

As it is it's just cruel; the proper thing to say to a rape victim is NOT "Well, you'd be even WORSE off if you were a girl".

I agree. My point was more along the lines of what DSC was saying, which is that there are valid points to be discussed about how different kinds of victims are treated differently, but she didn't really seem to be able to make that point properly here and should have addressed it differently.
