Misogynistic and anti-misogynistic web site recommendations

Post by David Futrelle on Thu 11 Aug 2011, 1:42 am

I'm always looking for websites where I can find new and interesting forms of misogyny to mock (or even old and only semi-interesting ones). If you can think of any I haven't ever written about, let me know about them! Religious ones especially; I want to write more about that, but beyond a few traditionalist sites that sort of abut the manosphere I don't know much about this particular corner of the web.

Also, if you know of any misogyny-mocking sites, let me know about them too. Someone mentioned a Quiverful one recently and I can't remember what it was -- possibly this? http://www.freejinger.org/

Anyway, any and all suggestions would be welcomed by me (and probably by a lot of other people here too).

Thanks!

FWIW, Naomi Wolf started going off the rails back in the mid-90s.

At one point she was Al Gore's image consultant and tried to teach him to become ... an Alpha male.

Yes, she was into that bullshit before there even was a PUA "movement."

Speaking of the quiverful movement, ""The best of" quotes from the modern day patriarchs and patriocentrists" -- http://truewomanhood.wordpress.com/2009/11/25/the-best-of-quotes-from-the-patriarchy-and-patriocentrists/ This is a link from the side bar of the No Longer Quivering blog (http://nolongerquivering.com/)

I find the fundamentalist patriarch movement fascinating because they have institutionalized a lot of things that mainstream society tends to believe but not say out loud, such as that mens' work is what's really important, and women are mainly here to look pretty, be supportive, make babies, etc. (My own family, fairly average middle-class white people, never, ever, ask a woman about her job, no matter how relevant it is to the conversation or how great the job is. They only ask men about theirs, and then tell the women how nice they look. That's just one example.)

I hate to recommend any non-misogynist site with comments on manboobz, because I dont' want to send trolls people's way.

One cite where the actual posts are usuallly just fine, and the people running it aren't too bad, but the commentors include a huge host of sexist douches is friendlyatheist.com. All of the sexist libertarians that got chased away from pharyngula seem to be collecting in the comments section over there.

The Quiverfull blogosphere. Just follow the links on the sidebar at Ladies Against Feminism. Or better yet, visit Vision Forum. Be advised to have some alcoholic beverages handy.

The MRA comments need to be interesting buttman, interesting is harder to find while misogyny in general is not.

I would love to see your "endless examples of feminist misandry".

Buttman, does the existence of misandry cancel out the misogyny somehow? Does it turn the misogyny into a harmless light bulb joke? Otherwise, I don't see your point.

Actually, he's almost got something here. You just gotta change a word.

You actually could write volumes about MRA Misandry. Because MRAs are against any form of masculinity that isn't toxic. Trying to not be toxically masculine is being a gender traitor or some other bullshit. And really, for all the claims that feminists 'insult men', I'm pretty sure that most of us don't reach the level of "What man can control himself when presented with slutty dress?"

Really, any place with less-than-high average commentator intelligence is bound to attract some sexism sometime.

Try youtube; I know they have a pretty active manosphere in some places.

YouTube has a whole host of MRA video bloggers.

But oh my lord is it painful to listen to them. I'm sure there's lots of stuff there that would be great for the blog, but I ... just ... can't ... do it.

Hey if you feel fatigued by wading through MRA bullshit on youtube I suggest you watch this video by a youtuber named Ujames1976 in just 17 minutes he thoroughly trashes a men's rights douchebag named RockingMrE and takes apart everyone of is arguments. Seriously watch it, its fucking badass.

David, please post on this bit from Bardamu, the irony is sidesplitting:

The man you should fear the most is the man who considers himself a victim. A man who thinks of himself as a victim is a de facto moral nihilist. He can say the most brazen lies or commit the most vile deeds without the slightest shred of remorse. Because a victim views himself as perpetually downtrodden by whatever all-encompassing force he thinks rules his life, he can justify anything in his mind by saying he’s just evening the scales. Men who think of themselves as strong, independent, and/or well-off can never achieve the level of depravity that victims wallow in as a matter of course.

It's interesting; some of the most pointed takedowns of MRA nonsense come from people like Ujames1976 who are fairly close to them ideologically.

Look for David Byron; he's around but he's gotten booted from every feminist website ever. Actually, you can go to the Straight Dope Message Board, search for 'rape' and 'is dressing like a slut asking for it' and you'll find misogyny out the wazoo. They also did a bang up job calling the 11-year-old Cleveland Texas gang rape victim a town 'ho'. Byron posted there for a while but he was too offensive even for them.

There's also something called the Liz Library, which contains many many quotes from the leading lights of the MRM today---including Warren Farrell.
